Apple Days and Chilly Nights

You’ll have to forgive me but the fall brings out both the best and the corniest in me. I just love this time of year and I’m not afraid to get all mushy about it. Go ahead. Mock me if you must. But this is MY time of year and I’m going to enjoy every single bit of it.
These are days of apples followed by chilly nights where you have no choice but to snuggle. You can snuggle with your loved one, with your teddy bear or with your favourite book. Whatever.
While I can’t come to help you with the snuggling part, I can help out a bit with the apple part.
For today’s edition of Magazine Mondays, I give you one of the very best apple crisp recipes that I have ever tried. In fact, it has become my favourite apple crisp recipe. Am I ever glad I rescued it from the magazine pile.
Vanilla Bean Apple Crisp appeared in the March 2002 issue of Bon Appétit magazine. It’s only taken a little over 6 years for me to try it. I am now prepared to snuggle with this apple crisp for the next 6 months of fall/winter.
Have a wonderful, snuggly week!
Ciao!
If you have a recipe that you’ve tried recently from a magazine, send it along and I’ll link to it in my Magazine Mondays post.
This week I’m joined by Liliana of My Cookbook Addiction who pays tribute to her father-in-law with Ginger Pear Muffins; Lori of Lori’s Lipsmacking Goodness tempts us with Green Onion and Cheddar Biscuits; Jen of Chocolate Shavings made Mushroom and Roquefort Tartelettes; Natashya of Living in the Kitchen with Puppies makes me want to swoon with Eggplant Parmesan with Crisp Bread Topping and Wandering Coyote of Retorte made a luscious Deep Chocolate Pound Cake.
Click here for the Vanilla Bean Apple Crisp recipe. For my version, I baked the crips in 6 individual ramekins as opposed to an 8-inch square pan. I also added vanilla ice cream and a generous application of caramel sauce.

Looks delicious, I have to admit I’ve never made an apple crisp although I’v certainly eaten my fair share! My list of autumn must bake recipes is longer that I anticipated, hopefully it won’t take me 6 years to try this!
10/6/08 at 2:02 am
Hmm this looks delicious. It shows you really like it. You don t have to wash the ramekin
I love fall too .
10/6/08 at 2:36 am
That dessert looks extremely scrumptious! Really droolworthy! A wonderful speciality!
Cheers,
Rosa

this sounds really delicious, perfect for those nippy nights!
10/6/08 at 6:13 am
Wow that looks delicious- good idea to make it in ramekins instead of a big pie dish- maybe that would inspire me not to eat the whole entire thing by myself (like I did last Fall when I made an apple crisp while I was 4 months pregnant!)
10/6/08 at 6:33 am
That does look like something worth snuggling with…all warm and gooey! Yummy!
10/6/08 at 7:02 am
I too love this time of year, so now worries!!
Faaaabulous Vanilla Bean Apple Crisp!! Wowza!!
10/6/08 at 7:19 am
This looks delicious! I made a version of apple crisp the other day as my kids love it but I include oatmeal and some whole wheat flour to make it a bit healthier for them. I will definitely have to use this recipe one day though.
10/6/08 at 8:00 am
this looks gorgeous! i love apple crisp but have never made it myself. that caramel sauce just looks so goolicious! i will have to try this soon!
10/6/08 at 9:13 am
OMG - this looks insanely delicious!
10/6/08 at 10:42 am
This looks so good- I love apple desserts! They’re perfect for this time of year.
10/6/08 at 10:54 am
This looks fantastic. It’s not really fall yet in So Cal, but I’m in the mood for it!
10/6/08 at 10:55 am
That looks like a crowd pleasing dessert! I love the picture of the empty dish. I’m going to save this recipe for the holidays, when I’m sure I can find an excuse to use it!
10/6/08 at 11:43 am
I love fall, too! It’s a great time of year.
This looks delicious! Anything with caramel, apples, and vanilla will immediately grab my attention!
10/6/08 at 11:58 am
Must be because I love Fall so much that I had a similar meal! How funny is that. I didnt post it on my site because I wasnt thrilled with how it came out but it was basically an apple upside down cake with caramel. It was delicious but not exactly pleasing to the eye.
Your apple crisp on the other hand looks amazing! I must try that one now too! Oh apples, apples, apples, let me count the ways… talk about corny! ha!
10/6/08 at 2:56 pm
This is one of my favourite desserts and with that caramel it looks extra delicious!
10/6/08 at 3:01 pm
I am in love with apple desserts right now, really apple anything! This crisp looks over the top!
10/6/08 at 3:57 pm
I’ve made a couple apple caramel pies lately, I just love that combo!
10/6/08 at 5:32 pm
I do love this time of year also; to be in the kitchen baking all day when there’s a chill in the air is heaven! The apple crisp looks fabulous. I’ve never ventured away from My Mother’s Apple Crisp, but this might be the one to do it!
10/6/08 at 6:27 pm
What a recommendation! My husband loves apple crisp, so I’ll definitely have to try it.
10/6/08 at 10:23 pm
Definitely worth snuggling up with…while watching hockey.

10/7/08 at 7:11 am
I totally understand how you feel about Fall .. I fell exactly the same way. This dessert looks delicious- and what a great way to use the apples that are so beautiful at this time of year!
Thanks for featuring me on your Magazine mondays edition. I am digging up some recipes I had saved in numerous magazines over the months and really want to try.
10/7/08 at 8:08 am
In one reference to the dish you call it vanilla apple bean crisp, does it have beans in it?
Just kidding. I love this time of year too, despite creeping winter. Yay for apples and pumpkins!
10/7/08 at 6:40 pm
The first photo of the googy beautiful apple crisp but it’s the empty dish that makes me smile and think Oh my that was good.
10/7/08 at 6:42 pm
Wow, that looks too good! I might hesitate if it was in front of me, but then my senses would come back and the hips would lose!
10/7/08 at 6:55 pm
Love apple crisp, love caramel and especially like that it’s in individual portions. I can have one all to myself.
10/7/08 at 9:12 pm
OH gawd. This looks pretty much to die for. I was searching and searching for an apple crisp recipe that was just a tad bit different, but no luck. I went w/ something else.
10/8/08 at 3:59 am
This looks absolutely delicious!! Wow!! And I agree with you, I love the fall and I intend to be as corny as possible
10/8/08 at 4:09 am
That looks so good!
10/8/08 at 5:23 am
This is also my favourite time of year - the beautiful colours of the fall foilage, the wonderful baking smells in the kitchen.
This dessert is just perfect for this time of year and it looks absolutely delicious.
10/8/08 at 2:27 pm
Apple season! Snuggle season!
Autumn makes me happy too. Cold little nose sticking out of the blankies, cute little apple desserts in ramekins….. what could be better?
10/8/08 at 5:15 pm
I long to see Fall again…here we have only 2 seasons: summerautumn and winterspring. Lovely, lovely dessert!
Maybe if we ask Mr. Tarteletty very nice, he’ll let me give you a snuggle. Heck, I’ll see you in a few weeks, so he does not even have to know, right?
10/9/08 at 9:29 am
This looks SO delicious. Did you make your own caramel sauce, or do you have a brand you like to buy?
10/9/08 at 6:53 pm
Lucious looking crisp! Fall really is a wonderful season. Hope you are snuggled up nice and cozy the way you want to be.
10/9/08 at 9:31 pm
Ohhh… this looks so dangerous and yum… I can’t wait to make it. It looks so good I hope you don’t mind I will post on my blog tomorrow and have it linked to your blog.
Thank you for sharing…

10/13/08 at 2:15 am
