I will never forget the first time that I saw a container of Marshmallow Fluff in a grocery store! I was taken aback with mixture of fascination, excitement and disbelief with a little revulsion thrown in. So this is the stuff that goes in Twinkies!!! Now I’ve eaten my fair share of Twinkies over the years but I have to be honest, I’m always mildly horrified by what’s in them. Not that it stops me from eating them, mind you.
We all have our vices, I suppose.
Something made me buy a container of that Fluff stuff so it was only a matter of time before I used it. That happened to be a few weeks ago when I was perusing my magazine pile and came across a recipe that I’d bookmarked from the November 2002 issue of Food & Wine for Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Filling.
The recipe turned out very well although some of my cupcakes didn’t have a lot of filling as I was afraid that I might actually burst my cupcakes by overfilling them. Overall, though, they were yummy and should I ever be in possession of another container of Marshmallow Fluff I’d try these again.
This is, of course, my Magazine Mondays entry. Here are some other entries for the week from people who have tackled their magazine pile!
Remember, if you post a recipe from a magazine, let me know and I’ll link to it in a Magazine Mondays post.
Have a great week, everyone!
Ciao!

Hello Miss Cream puff,
I’m not much of a baker. I’m a garlic and anchovy kind of a girl, but your sweet blog has gotten under my skin. I would like to add you to my links page.
I have an Italian cooking blog called Skinny Guinea at www.ericademane. When time permits, I’d love you to take a look, and maybe you’d like to link to me as well.
Best to you,
Erica De Mane

Wowo i have seen this in books , always thought they were difficult to make, looks so yummy delicious.
Wish i could grab one from my screen.

This looks delicious! I’ve made something similar before, and the cream filling is hard to beat!
02/16/09 at 11:21 am
Wow. This is really dangerous… especially since I now have in my possession a recipe for homemade marshmallow creme! I found it on the kattitudes blog (http://www.kattitudes.com/creative/2007/11/12/make-your-own-marshmallow-creme/) and tried it this weekend. YUM! If you use her recipe know that it makes A LOT of creme - I halved the recipe but still had tons left over. Now I know what to do with it all!

The fluff from containers you find in the grocery store is not what is in store bought twinkies or cupcakes. I’m confused…. they are filled with creme…. which is really chemicals and lard and probably no cream at all.

Some ingredient lists are best left un-read
Cute cupcakes.

Being canadian, I’ve NEVER had a twinkie (I know, gasp, right?!) - I don’t think the ingredient list passes our canadian standards, haha. But marshmallow creme-filled anything sounds good to me. And the swirlygig on top is adorable!
02/16/09 at 2:34 pm
OH my gosh, scratch that, you’re canadian too! Where were the twinkies in my life??!
02/16/09 at 2:44 pm
OMG, I want one of those…NOW! While I’ve never used Fluff in any recipe, I will confess to a secret love affair with Snowballs. Enough said.
02/16/09 at 4:02 pm
Beautiful job, Ivonne! I saw an icing recipe recently that uses that fluff stuff, but I’m still not convinced it’s something I want to try…
02/16/09 at 4:33 pm
they look like the “real deal” (without all the scary stuff). way to go!
02/16/09 at 5:10 pm
Ooops I’m late! My MM post just went up.
Want a really good thing to do with Fluff - mix a jar with a container of spreadable cream cheese, your choice of flavor, and you have a fruit dip so good that apples will become spoons.
02/16/09 at 5:37 pm
Ooh, those look yummy. Especially the chocolate icing on top.
02/16/09 at 6:36 pm
Looking delicious — especially for choco lovers.

Marshmallow Fluff!! Nostalgia alert
Oh and now they even make a vegan version called Ricemallow Fluff!! How fun!!
02/17/09 at 9:01 am
Ah, what memories these bring back.
02/17/09 at 3:13 pm
Cute cupcakes!! A real classic! I just saw your blog on the world’s best food blog list. Check it out: http://is.gd/jRiD. You are AMAZING!
02/17/09 at 5:01 pm
I made some that are almost identical to these! The only difference is that I used actual marshmallows instead of the Fluff =)
Feel free to check it out later on this week
02/18/09 at 3:31 am
It took me a few years after moving here, from Canada, to actually get up the gumption to try Fluff.
My vice, Jos Louis. I can’t get them here and really miss them.
02/19/09 at 11:42 pm
Hi! We don’t have marshmallow fluff here readily available can I just use melted marshmallows?
02/20/09 at 3:12 am
Hi Ivonne,
Can we use your Magazine Monday badge too? I (finally) have a Mag Mon post and I would love to use your nifty image if I can.
02/26/09 at 1:20 am
I felt exactly the same way when I first saw Fluff, but I was curious more than anything. It just seemed like it’s been sitting on the shelf for decades.
