A very quick post today, my friends.
I missed Magazine Mondays last week due to a furious schedule and things haven’t let up very much. Busy bee, as they say.
For my MM submission I give you Glittering Lemon Sandwich Cookies from the December 2008 issue of Gourmet.
These were okay. Not bad, but not great either. The filling is a bit on the too sweet side. While it was fun to use the sanding sugar (not so much fun to source the sanding sugar, though), in the end, I wouldn’t say this was a recipe worth making again. But I am glad I stood up to my magazine pile.
Somewhat.
Here’s a list of lots of wonderful foodbloggers who stared down their magazine piles:
Bobbi of Bobbi’s Art made Hamburger Buns and Buttermilk Raspberry Cake from Gourmet.
Elizabeth of The Waspy Redhead made Chocolate Stout Cake from Bon Appétit.
The Tea Lady of Tea and Scones made Mexican Casserole from Cookin’ with Paula Deen.
Joy of The Cooking of Joy made Fresh Orange Sherbet from Cooking Light.
Biz from Biggest Diabet Loser made Wake-Up Wontons from Taste of Home Healthy Cooking.
Have a great week, everyone!
Ciao!

Those cookies caught my eye in December because they’re so pretty and I love sandwich cookies. I’m sort of bummed to learn that they don’t live up to their beauty. But, thanks for doing the legwork for me here. They were on my “list” and while I don’t know that I’ll knock them off of the “list” entirely, they’ve definitely moved to the bottom. They’re absolutely beautiful though!

I’m just going to have to mark this on my calendar. I cook from magazines every week and think, “I’m sending this to Magazine Mondays.” And don’t. I don’t know about the sweet filling - but the cookies are so pretty. The sanding sugar gives them the most enticing sparkle.

Oh, that’s too bad. These cookies were on my “to-make” list as well.

These look so adorable I love the intense yellow! Too bad they did not bowl you over! Hope you find time to stop and smell the flowers Ivonne in your busy schedule!

They remind me of Peeps, with the sugary yellow outside and the gooey white inside.

The first thing I thought when I saw your picture was “tennis balls”.
It’s too bad you didn’t love them, but they sure look cute!

I always hate it when it doesn’t taste/look like it should from the magazine. It’s like finally buying that great outfit that looked so good on the mannekin, only to get it home and….. Well you get the picture. And your pic of those cookies looks good, too bad they weren’t
This is going to be fun to see how many food mags people REALLY cook from

They are so cute! At first glance they looked a bit like tennis balls..
06/9/09 at 12:48 pm
These look so cute. I really wish they turned out well, because they are really striking!
06/9/09 at 3:09 pm
they look really good
06/10/09 at 3:55 pm
It’s really too bad these weren’t tasty, because they’re adorable! That bright yellow would definitely make them popular at any event/potluck to which they were brought!
So I know it’s Wednesday, but I’ve always wanted to do Magazine Mondays, and I just made a recipe from Bon Appetit (I posted it today). I’ll be in Disney World (woohoo!) this upcoming Monday, but do you think you could mention my addition as well? That would be very cool of you! I’ll probably be participating this summer, but I wanted to get an early start =)

These sandwich cookies are divine!
06/11/09 at 1:23 pm
Well they certainly look delicious, even if that wasn’t so much true for this glistening yellowy thingies..:)
I know how you feel with the busy… not much better here either!
06/14/09 at 12:49 am
I agree with the people saying they look like tennis balls. What fun these would be to serve while watching Wimbilton (spelled wrong I am sure).
At least the Wings didn’t win, eh?
