I’m back from a great trip to NYC. I had five jam-packed days there that amounted to a great start to 2010.
I loved so many things about New York.
I loved this bakery and this bakery.
I loved having dinner here. In fact, I’m pretty sure I want to live in that restaurant forever and ever eating Karen DeMasco’s Maple Budino. Forever and ever.
I loved the Guggenheim. I loved Manet.
I loved brunch.
I loved Madison Avenue.
I loved watching my mom love Tiffany & Co.
I did not love the subway. Sorry.
I loved the cab drivers. Seriously. I did.
I loved the Coconut Cream Pie I had here.
Did I mention I loved Karen DeMasco’s Maple Budino?
I loved NYC.
It’s a bit belated, but I’m wishing all of you much health and happiness in this new year. I’m looking forward to lots of developments here at Cream Puffs in Venice as well. Lots of growth. Lots of moving forward. Lots of getting better. Lots of baking.
Buona fine e buon principio! (Happy ending and happy beginning!)
Ciao!

My daughter just got back from NYC too, she totally loved it. I am sure I didn’t sleep the whole time she was gone.

Sounds like your trip was really fun! I’ll have to visit New York one of these days.
01/9/10 at 10:57 am
Ah, NYC my homewtown. I love it when people love NYC! My daughter found a quote for me, “I’m a New Yorker. I’m genetically designed to not live anywhere else.”
01/9/10 at 1:31 pm
I was in New York at this time last year and absolutely loved it! I spend hours just wandering around, (despite the fact that it was freezing out). And maple budino sounds like something you need to recreate here…
01/9/10 at 4:24 pm
Coconut cream pie. I love coconut cream pie. And yet I have never had a decent coconut cream pie. That’s how much I love it, even when it’s bad. (Can you tell I stopped at CCP?). Wonder if anyone has a surefire homemade recipe…

Oh your post makes my heart want to sing out loud! I want to go to NYC too! Glad you had such a GREAT time!!
01/9/10 at 7:09 pm
Sounds like a busy and fun trip! That picture is amazing, with the sunset. Welcome back!
01/9/10 at 10:45 pm
Glad you had such a great trip. There really is so much to love and hate about NYC
01/10/10 at 8:40 am
Ditto what others said: I love it when others love the city I call home! Next time, you must try Billy’s Bakery - my FAVORITE cupcake place (seriously, don’t mess with any others, not even the famous Magnolia). No one does cupcakes like Billy’s!
I’ve never been to Locanda Verde - will be sure to stop by now!
01/10/10 at 10:36 am
I’ve never been to NYC - sounds like a great time and a great way to start the New year!
01/11/10 at 12:14 pm
happy new year, happy new decade, ivonne! i love all the places you visited in NY- did you also go to momofuku? what an utter honour to have met the lady who created that gorgeous, gorgeous cake. blown over, i am. best wishes, shayma
ps if you liked the NY cabbies, i take it you do quite like us Pakistanis?
01/11/10 at 4:46 pm
Glad you had a fun trip!
01/12/10 at 9:48 am
Ack! I’m the opposite…I love the subway and hate the cabs! The cab drivers scare the daylights out of me, turning from the wrong lanes, stomping the breaks, driving between lanes, all while talking on a cell phone. lol.
The subway is so quick and easy. No traffic to worry about, hop on, hop off and pretty darn cheap.
01/12/10 at 7:24 pm
I’ve been thinking about getting that cookbook-I think it’s time I took the plunge! Your pizza looks awesome.
01/17/10 at 12:35 pm
You visited some nice places in nyc. Beautiful 1st photo! You must come back soon -there are so many food places here that are nearing the level of perfection!
ps: the subway is a love/hate thing for most new yorkers. We love that it runs 24/7. We hate everything else about it.

[…] Every since my trip to New York City in January, I’ve been on the losing end of the weight gain battle. Just as fast as you can say City Bakery’s pretzel croissant I’m suddenly about 10 pounds heavier. […]
